Conclusion: An Invitation to Test the Word

❦

We have looked at the Bible from many sides. It is a unified library written over fifteen centuries. It carries prophecies that believers see fulfilled in history and in Christ. It is preserved by manuscripts in numbers no other ancient book can approach. It names real places and people that spades continue to uncover. It speaks of the natural world with restraint and wonder. It holds together a single doctrine of God, humanity, sin, and grace. It has transformed lives, shaped civilizations, and survived every attempt to silence it.

Believers conclude that the Bible's claim about itself is reasonable and its testimony trustworthy. And they note that the Bible's final purpose is not merely to be admired but to be obeyed and loved: "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee" (Psalm 119:11).

For the reader who is still unsure, the invitation is simple. Read it for yourself, beginning with the Gospel of John. Read with an open mind, searching "the scriptures daily, whether those things were so" (Acts 17:11). Ask the Author for light. "If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine" (John 7:17). And remember the promise on which this whole book rests: "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away" (Matthew 24:35).
