Chapter 17: A Closing Confession of Faith
This confession gathers the common ground of the faith in one place. It may be read aloud in worship or used for personal reflection.
I believe that the Holy Scriptures are inspired by God and are my final authority for what I believe and how I live (2 Timothy 3:16).
I believe in one God, eternally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Ghost (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19).
I believe that Jesus Christ is God manifest in the flesh, born of a virgin, crucified for my sins, raised bodily from the dead, and seated at the right hand of the Father (John 1:14; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4).
I believe that all have sinned and need a Saviour (Romans 3:23).
I believe that I am saved by grace through faith, not by works (Ephesians 2:8-9), and that I must be born again (John 3:3).
I believe in water baptism by immersion for believers and in the remembrance of the Lord’s Supper (Romans 6:4; 1 Corinthians 11:26).
I believe that God calls me to a holy life through the work of the Spirit and the Word (1 Peter 1:16; John 17:17).
I believe that the baptism in the Holy Spirit is the promise of the Father for power to witness (Acts 1:8; 2:39).
I believe that the Spirit gives gifts to build the church and bears fruit in the believer’s life, and that love must govern both (1 Corinthians 12:7; 13:1; Galatians 5:22-23).
I believe that the Lord still heals the sick in answer to the prayer of faith (James 5:14-15; Isaiah 53:5).
I believe in the church as the body of Christ and in its mission to the whole world (Matthew 16:18; Mark 16:15).
I believe in the personal, visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; Titus 2:13).
I believe in the final judgment, the reign of Christ, and the new heavens and new earth, where God will dwell with his people forever (Revelation 20:11-15; 21:1-4).
“Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen” (Jude 24-25).
