Chapter 4: Humanity, Sin, and the Fall

We believe humanity was created good and in the image of God, but fell through disobedience. As a result, sin and death entered the world and every person is born needing salvation.

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them” (Genesis 1:27). Adam and Eve disobeyed the one command given them (Genesis 3:1-7). “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned” (Romans 5:12). “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). “The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

No human effort can repair this. We need a Saviour (Isaiah 64:6; Ephesians 2:1-3).

Where the traditions stand. All hold that the fall brought universal sin and spiritual death, and that salvation comes only through Christ. Evangelical Baptists, the Assemblies of God, and Foursquare agree here.

Carry this verse: “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
